PROFILE OF SOUTH TRIPURA DISTRICT

 

Geographical situation: South Tripura District is one of the four districts of the state of Tripura. The district is bounded on the North by Dhalai and West Tripura districts and in east, west and south by the International border with Bangladesh.  The district has a long border of 320 kms with Bangladesh which is the highest for any of the districts in the state. The district headquarter (Udaipur) is 52 Kms from Agartala by road. The nearest railway station is Agartala.

Hill ranges: There are three principal hill ranges in the district i.e. South Baramura, Deotamura and Atharamura hill ranges. Deotamura with a length of 85 kilometers is the principal hill range of the District and forms the boundary between Udaipur and Amarpur Sub-Divisions.

Rivers: The principal rivers flowing through the District are Gumti, Muhuri and Feni.
